Intersections in the Rother Mills

After Milan, Copenhagen and Gdynia, the Intersections installation has been commissioned by the Rother Mills in Poland. The installation combines an outdoor seating and relaxation area with an open-air exhibition.

Designed with the city’s inhabitants in mind, the exhibition’s multi-functionality and open form were important. Thanks to the smart integration of information boards with the seating system, visitors have the opportunity to learn about the history of the recently refurbished mills and plans related to their modernization. Archival drawings of the Mills from the mid-19th century and photos from before the renovation are displayed, among others. The installation harmonizes with the buildings in form and color but at the same time it introduces a new, fresh element to the space. Adapted to the surroundings, Intersections invites people to play, rest and explore. In this way, it’s useful to everyone – old and young. Modularity allows for the freedom to reconfigure the installation in the future, so that it can be used in another area of the Mills after the complete opening of the complex.

– We wanted to combine the information function with a visually interesting object. Intersections provide a perfect solution. We know this project from other cities and we are happy to see how Bydgoszcz residents and guests use it. This is the first such distinctive element of small architecture that appeared on our terrace. We chose the colors together with the Designer and the Council for Aesthetics in Bydgoszcz – explains Anna Triebwasser from the Rother Mills.

Intersections for public spaces are produced on request in communication with the client, they are made out of powder-coated steel or stainless steel in the RAL color palette.

The first project of Intersections was commissioned by Gdynia Design Center on the occasion of Gdynia Design Days 2014.
